Daddy Shark Swim School

This policy is to be read in conjunction with Wavepower 2024 – Swim England Child Safeguarding Policies and Procedures. Daddy Shark Swim School is in the process of adopting the provisions of Wavepower 2024 in full, with the full guidance and consultation of Swim England during this process.

Our service to you:

To provide swimming lessons using qualified swimming teachers either Swim England or STA. Each lesson is ’25 minute duration’, with an admin time of 5 minutes per lessons to allow our teachers to collate and record all development information including registration and change over of lessons.

We will endeavour to maintain a maximum class size of four or six children without parent in the water and a class size of 12 (per teacher) with parents in the water. We reserve the right to change the size and structure of swimming classes without notice.

Enrolment is a place within the swim school, not a specific teacher unless specifically named at the time of booking in (eg “1:1 – Neil”). Whilst we endeavour to keep teacher changes to a minimum, teachers may change and notice may not always be provided in advance. We cannot guarantee teacher preference.

Swimming days and times are not guaranteed each term due to class restructuring term by term.

Parent/Guardian Responsibilities:

Parent/Guardian must ensure child arrives on time before lesson start time.

Parent/Guardian must ensure child has been to the toilet to avoid distractions during our lesson.

Parent/Guardian must not approach poolside unless asked to do so by a child’s teacher.

Parent/Guardian must ensure all children are kept away from poolside until their teacher calls them forward for their lesson.

Parent/Guardian must not allow any child, including siblings to walk/play around the perimeter of the pool. Children who are not in the water remain the responsibility of the parent/guardian at all times. Parents/Guardians are responsible for the safety and behaviour of children who are not swimming, which includes but is not limited to ensuring that children do not run poolside, climb on chairs on the side of the pool, take toys and/or throw them into the water during lessons, chew or bite toys or equipment including noodles.

Parent/Guardian must not assist in the teaching of a child during a lesson unless for medical reasons. Parent/Guardian must remain on the premises whilst their child is in lessons (in the event of an evacuation).

Payments of swimming fees:

All prices are subject to change without prior notice.

Payment must be made by the due date stated on the covering email enclosing the invoice to ensure

swimming places are secured. All places are secured by payment upfront.

Our courses are generally run as terms of up to 12 weeks, not as flexible weekly lessons.

Any failed Gocardless payments will be subject to a £12 missed payment fee.

Refunds and Cancellations:

We do not offer refunds on cancellations of swimming lessons or private hire. Once payment has been made for lessons, your space is secured for the period of time the payment covers and no refunds will be offered. If you wish to cancel lessons at any point, this must be stated by email to swim@daddysharkswimschool.com or via the Parent Portal. No other communication methods for providing cancellation notice are accepted. If you are cancelling your place within four working days of a Gocardless payment being due, you will need to cancel the Gocardless mandate with your bank account to stop the payment from being taken, otherwise payment will stand and not be refunded. Once notice of cancellation has been received, your place will be cancelled and your final lesson will be the date up to which you have paid. This will be confirmed by email. No refunds or “catch up lessons” are available for absence through sickness, injury, holiday or other reasons outside of our control (including but not limited to change in work commitments, parties, choosing to no longer attend, operations, recovery from illnesses, moving away from the area etc). If you book onto a lesson which we consider to be unsuitable for your child, we reserve the right to refuse to allow your child to return to the lesson. An alternative lesson may be offered subject to availability and at our complete discretion. No refund will be offered for any lessons remaining in the term. At all times you are encouraged to contact us before booking lessons to ensure their suitability. In the event of a lesson cancellation due to teacher sickness, mechanical failure or any other reason out of our control a replacement cover teacher will be used or if no cover is available at that time/day a credit will be given for the missed lesson to be used for the following term.

Public Liability Insurance:

Public Liability insurance is held by us, which covers all swimmers while attending their lessons. We use hired facilities and have limited control of those facilities. For issues not under our control any accidents that occur must be notified to the appropriate body and the matter taken up with them.

Photography & Videoing

Due to The Child Protection Act we cannot and do not allow any photography or filming in or around the swimming pools unless fully authorised by Daddy Shark Swim School. We will make the necessary arrangements for a full signed agreement from parents concerned.

If anyone is found to be taking pictures or filming we will ask for them to stop immediately and may ask for the photos/film to be destroyed.
The use of mobile phones is not permitted poolside or in the changing rooms.

Operating from hired facilities

Our swim school operates from hired facilities, Ormskirk C of E Primary School and Everlast Gym, Ocean Parade, Marine Drive, Southport and such other venues as we may from time to time hire.

Certificates

Certificate testing is at the discretion of the teacher.

Certificates are purchased separately and must be paid in full before certificate is provided.

Certificates may be collected at the next swimming lesson, 72 hours after the order has been placed.

We do not post certificates.
